Mailbox

My goal here was to make a mailbox that fit in with the "Man's Nature" theme, fit in with the architecture and, at the same time, tied in with the existing lamps.  The house is a typical ranch layout from the '60's with some Mid-Century Modern elements.  The lamps are new but have a definite feel about them that I really liked.  (More about that later.)

About the lamps...

These are just relatively inexpensive lamps that were purchased at Home Depot.  However, as I looked them over and imagined how to make the mailbox tie in with them, I realized that I was reminded of the artwork in the old Myst, Riven and Exile computer games.  The artwork in those games is beautiful and shows genuine imagination.  A common element in the games is that there may be one area where the artwork is elegant and beautiful whereas in another area of the game the artwork is obviously related but somehow twisted.  The two broken sides on this piece were somewhat inspired by this.
